Part time seasonal
worker
We have a vacancy for a part time (minimum 16
hours per week), seasonal worker to commence within the next few
weeks. We can normally offer seasonal work until well into October & sometimes
November. Duties to
include all aspects of work within a busy retail / growing plant nursery.
You must already have a good knowledge of plants,
be very fit, enthusiastic, have good practical skills, be well organized, highly
responsible, willing to learn and not afraid of hard work. Good communication
skills are desirable. You will be expected to work for 1 day at weekends and
Bank Holidays on a rota basis and able to work on a regular weekly pattern.
Current rates are £6.10 ph. with normal entitlements for holiday pro rata to
days worked. All employees are registered according to Government regulations
for tax and National Insurance.
Staff are provided with protective gloves
and aprons and are expected to be of tidy, well groomed appearance wearing
clothing in keeping with and suitable for the type of work involved. We operate
a no smoking policy within the precincts of the nursery.
Duties involved:
Maintaining stock to
include weeding, watering, potting on, labeling, placing plants in their
correct locations in the sales
beds and general nursery tidiness. Because we are a retail nursery you will
often be approached by customers for advice. When competent you will also be
expected to serve at the till and answer incoming phone calls. Computer
experience would be an advantage.
Fitness is essential. You will be on your
feet for long periods and the job involves a lot of carrying and stooping - in
all weathers. Forget any illusions about strolling about with trug and watering
can!! This can be a demanding job and the pressures can be high especially
during early summer. However, there can be a lot of job satisfaction and a sense
of achievement plus the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge about plants
whilst enjoying working outside in a friendly, small nursery.
We carry a over 3000 varieties / species of plants from the familiar to the very rare. Our customers range from the raw beginner to those who have a profound knowledge and enthusiasm for plants. From the humble back yard and window box to a Stately home, Botanic Garden or Royal Palace.
This is a great opportunity to work alongside and learn a wealth of information from Kevin, our herbaceous specialist - his in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for plants is second to non.
